COACHING STAFF & LEADERSHIP
2026-2027
Meet the team that helps develop the men of TXST Rugby

Hometown: Klein, Texas
Year started playing: 1984
Positions: Prop, Lock, 8
Why TXST: I’m involved with the Club because of the community. I made some deep, lifelong friendships while playing, but also afterwards through the club, all the way to today. I think it’s valuable and rare. I want to help the current players have that experience for themselves. If I can do that by helping to keep the club healthy, organized and working together towards consistently competing for championships, then it’s well-worth the effort.
Scot Courtney
Director of Rugby

Why TXST: This is the club I played for so coaching is giving back to the club and trying to help preserve a winning culture and tradition.

Why TXST: While I didn't play rugby for Texas State, Texas State has always been a major part of my rugby journey. I was introduced to the sport by an alumni and the majority of my teammates were renegades. So I've always felt a connection to the program. When I was asked to come out and coach there was never a question

Why TXST: I've had the privilege to play with each and everyone of our coaches, I know how good they are at this sport. Having the opportunity to coach with them and show a new generation of ruggers why this sport is so great. Getting to do it all at TXST were I went to school is an awesome experience.

Positions: 1,2,3,8
Why TXST: I’m not an alumni of Texas State but this place is special. I popped up meeting strangers playing touch rugby that have now become family. This place has a winning rugby tradition and will continue to build momentum for years to come. Couldn’t think of a better place to coach or place here in the heart of central Texas. Texas State will forever have a place in my heart! Eat ‘Em Up, ‘Cats!
Preston Hamlette

Why TXST: I’ve loved Rugby since the first time I put on my boots and stepped on the pitch. Texas State University was where it started and I would like to help build a national caliber team, bring a national championship to Texas State University, and get our first USA sevens Rugby Olympian.
